Kathrene Hansen, began her tenure as the Executive Director of the Greater Los Angeles Federal Executive Board on October 15, 1995. Federal Executive Boards were established by President Kennedy in 1961 to strengthen the management and administration of Federal activities and improve intergovernmental coordination at the local level. There are 28 FEBs nationwide, the Los Angeles Federal Community is one of the largest in the United States with more than 180 separate agencies. The LA FEB also has responsibility for all of Southern California and the states of Arizona and Nevada with an additional 100 Federal agencies and a combined total of 300,000 civilian, postal and military employees. Ms. Hansen currently is a member of numerous community and professional advisory boards where she represents the Federal community and serves as an individual volunteer.
Prior to joining the FEB staff she served as the Executive Assistant to the Southern California and Nevada Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Integrated Healthcare Network Board of Directors and simultaneously served as the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center’s Director of External Affairs. Prior to this assignment, Ms. Hansen served as the Public Affairs Officer, Senior Health Systems Specialist, and Executive Assistant to the Director at the West LA VAMC. Ms. Hansen has been an active participant in many Greater Los Angeles FEB events since 1990.
Prior to relocating to Los Angeles, Ms. Hansen worked in Washington, D.C. where she completed the two-year Presidential Management Intern Program in 1989. While in D.C., Ms. Hansen worked with the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee and in VA's Central Office as a Staff Assistant in the Office of the Secretary, and a Management Analyst in the Office of Program Analysis and Evaluation. Ms. Hansen began her Federal career at the Clarksburg VA Medical Center as an Administrative Resident and later completed the Personnel Management Specialist Training Program. Throughout her career, Ms. Hansen has received numerous awards for her consistently outstanding performance and has been recognized by numerous community organizations. After receiving her B.A. and prior to graduate school, Ms. Hansen worked for the Lieutenant Governor for the State of Idaho. Ms. Hansen was raised in the Air Force and learned early the importance of public service.
